Eastbourne from Above: A New Perspective

Beautiful Sunset Behind Eastbourne Pier

When I first moved to Eastbourne, I didn’t expect to fall in love with its landscapes quite so deeply. But over the years, this seaside town has never stopped surprising me. It’s a place where light and weather constantly reshape the coastline and from the air, those changes become even more dramatic.

This is my first article for Unknown Kent and Sussex, and I wanted to share a few of my favourite drone shots taken around Eastbourne, images that offer a different view of landmarks many of us know well.

Eastbourne Pier in the Golden Hour

One of the most iconic sights is Eastbourne Pier. From above, its Victorian structure stretches elegantly into the sea. I’ve flown my drone here in all seasons, but golden hour never fails to bring out its best.

Further west, Beachy Head needs no introduction. But while many visitors admire it from the cliffs, flying above reveals the true scale of the Beachy Head Lighthouse, standing alone against the vastness of sea and chalk. In some shots, the lighthouse almost looks like a tiny red pin dropped into endless blue.

Belle Tout Lighthouse Perches at the Edge of the Cliffs

Not far from there is the Belle Tout Lighthouse, perched proudly at the edge of the cliffs. It’s a place of history, mystery, and shifting ground – quite literally. In fact, Belle Tout was famously moved inland to save it from erosion. From above, you can see just how close the edge really is, and how fragile the cliffs have become.

Eastbourne may be a familiar destination, but I believe there’s still a lot to discover, especially when you change your perspective. I hope these images encourage others to look again at the places they think they know
