Chartwell; Winston Churchill’s Home

By Isabella Schembri-Adams

We visited Chartwell, in Westerham, Kent in the summer holidays when the weather was nice and sunny. It was a lovely place to spend the day with many historical facts to discover along the way.

Churchill built a lot of the walls himself, and a playhouse for his children.

The café has many delicious food options, including a huge range of vegan food, which suits us as we’re vegans.

There are many places for children to play, all in different areas of the garden. There’s a treehouse with a slide, a climbing area and some swings.

We stopped to admire the excellent views of the countryside in different places. You can especially see them from the walled garden and the café.

You can explore lots of places throughout the day, including an art studio, many rooms in the house and over 80 acres of land.

The kitchen and dining room are quite popular as they are different to the other rooms in the house.

One of the bedrooms has been transformed into a room where you can sit and watch a film about the house’s history which people like to go and see.

Another very interesting place to see is the mini-museum. It has more films and some items which are nearly 100 years old.

On the way home we imagined what it would be like to live in a lovely place like Chartwell and who we would invite to live with us.
