EQUIPMENT
- Large mixing bowl
- Cling film
- Muslin cloth or jam-straining bag
- 1-2 bottles for storing the vodka
INGREDIENTS
- 300g mixed dried fruit (sultanas, raisins, currants)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tsp ground mixed spice
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 6 cloves
- 75g dark brown sugar
- Zest of 1 orange, finely grated
- Zest of 1 lemon, finely grated
- 1 litre vodka
METHOD
- Combine Ingredients:Place mixed dried fruit, cinnamon sticks, ground spices, sugar, and citrus zest into large mixing bowl.
- Add Vodka:Pour vodka over the ingredients, stirring well to ensure the fruit is soaked in the vodka.
- Cover and Infuse:Cover bowl with cling film and allow the mixture to sit. Stir once daily for 3 days to blend and deepen the flavours.
- Strain and Bottle:After 7 days, strain vodka mixture through a muslin cloth or straining bag into a clean bowl. Reserve the soaked fruit for making festive mincemeat, if desired.
- Sterilise Bottles:Before straining, clean and sterilise bottles. Wash in warm, soapy water, rinsing, then drying in a warm oven. Pour strained vodka into sterilised bottles.
- Mature the Flavour:This vodka can be enjoyed immediately after straining, for the best results, let it mature for at least a week.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Serve Chilled: Enjoy chilled or straight from the freezer. Pair with a cheese board for a truly delicious indulgent experience—the spiced, fruity flavours pair beautifully with both sharp and creamy cheeses.
Espresso Martini: Use instead of Vodka.
Tiramisu: Enjoy a spicy, festive alternative to Marsala.
