Britannia Fish & Chips in Portsmouth

On a day trip to Portsmouth, we hoped to find a genuine Fish & Chip Restaurant on the seafront.

We all went in the Britannia, after I’d checked with the Ukranian chef, Oleskii that they make their own chips and batter. They do. They also have prices for Senior Citizens.

I had haddock and chips. The fish was fresh, the chips were chunky and the batter was crunchy, but not too thick. It cost £10.

Hubby John had cod and chips. He said it was exceptional. It also cost £10.

Friend Wendy had cod and chips. She said it was excellent and she was glad there wasn’t much salad on it.

Neighbour Barry had cod and chips. He said it was great and he enjoyed the home-made chips.

His wife Pauline had chicken chunks. She said they were good and moist.

The Britannia opened in the 1980s. It’s a good, traditional British chippy.

One thing spoilt it. I wanted to take a photo of the staff and the two English waitresses flatly refused to have their photos taken.

This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.

I find it pointless and rather silly.
