The Retreat Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, Kent

By Isabella Schembri-Adams

Poor Stormy

Poor Stormy the Dog can’t write his Adventures today because he’s hurt his paw so he had to stay at home.

But he has been to the Retreat Animal Rescue & Sanctuary before, so he knows what it’s like.

He stayed with his friend Mya instead while Mum and I went.

The Retreat is in High Halden, Kent. It’s a Rescue Centre which saves animals from slaughter including ex-race horses, cows, pigs and injured birds among many others.

They never put an animal down.

Dogs are allowed to visit so Stormy was sad that he couldn’t go.

We had a lovely time and saw many pigs and a friendly goat called Bert who was abandoned in a car park, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, and more.

We’re Vegan so we love seeing animals that have been saved. They also have a Vegan café and we had trouble choosing from all the yummy dishes.

In the end we had a Buddha Bowl and a selection of Tempura Veg.

There is a gift shop, a charity shop, a craft shop and a mini-supermarket.

They have a wildlife hospital on site and you can stay at the Sanctury in one of their lodges.

All funds raised go to the welfare of the animals.

Over 1,000 animals are being cared for and they have a no-kill policy.

Stormy said that when he’s better he’d like to visit the Sanctury and make some new friends, and try something in the café.
