Ranjit Recommends: Candlelight – Ed Sheeran Meets Coldplay

Candles Calling from the Westminster Walkway

The storied Central Hall in Westminster, London played host to Candlelight: Ed Sheeran Meets Coldplay on 23rd May 2026. This performance is part of the Candlelight Concert Series hosted by event organisers, Fever. Its core aim is to “democratise classical music” and the perpetual evolution of Fever’s productions has resulted in current day multi sensory musical experiences on candlelit stages

The venue is a stones throw away from Parliament Square and the Big Ben. In keeping with the themes of nearby landmarks, Westminster Central Hall boasts vertical optimums, with the highest self supporting ceiling in Europe. Hence, having two greats in Ed Sheeran and Coldplay at the epicentre of the evening’s instrumentals was a fitting way to illustrate the lofty heights Westminster Central Hall honours.

Character n Class of Candlelight Concerts

As you walk up the grand steps of the hall’s interiors, there are many a themed backdrop for the photogenic to click away! Prior to start time, attendees rushed to the edge of the stage to capture their own Candlelight effect, such was the increase in Fever pitch.

The performers were a String Quartet, with three violinists and one chello player. The lead, Sofie, engaged with the audience in a charismatic and humorous manner, encouraging rhythmic clapping throughout to complement the instrumentals. Furthermore, the tempo of the violinists correlated to the explicit choruses that the tunes resonated with.

Quirky Quintessential Quartet

The order of play was as follows:

Coldplay – Clocks

Coldplay – Something Just Like This

Ed Sheeran – Bad Habits

Coldplay – Adventure of a Lifetime

Coldplay – Fix You

Ed Sheeran – Photograph

Coldplay – The Scientist

Coldplay – Feels like I’m falling in love

Ed Sheeran – Shivers

Ed Sheeran – Perfect

Coldplay – Viva la Vida

Ed Sheeran – Give Me Love

Coldplay – Sky Full of Stars

There was even a five minute window towards the end of the concert for Ed Sheeran – Shape of You to be sounded out. This was met with vociferous approval from all zones up to row Z!

Should you wish to walk away with your own candles to recreate the nostalgia at home, then such paraphernalia can be purchased from the stalls directly outside the hall.
