It’s Showtime at the Hotel BonSol!

The BonSol Menu

Many venues hold Halloween celebrations now, but nothing like the Hotel Bonsol in Majorca – they put on a whole show!

We were warned before we arrived to bring something to wear for The Greatest Showman but we didn’t know what to expect.

Lorraine & son Alejandro’s wife.

On the evening of the 29th November, we were greeted at the door by Lorraine, Martin’s wife who was dressed in Edwardian costume and she sent us in to the bar where glasses of Sangria were lined up on the bar.

Some people started wandering in, dressed in various costumes; a trapeze artist, a strong man, and Martin dressed as the Ringmaster.

Our daughter Rana was also dressed as a Ringmaster, and so were other a few other people!

We wandered upstairs to the restaurant, which was draped with curtains and other Circus items were displayed on tables.

A Clown greeted us and handed us fans with the event printed on it. Then a waitress led us to our seats.

All the staff were dressed up, and the tables were decorated.

The ceiling was covered with hanging paper garlands, and posters of clowns covered the walls.

While we ate, the Clowns and the Fool walked round entertaining us. Then three girls appeared on stilts. They followed this by a juggling demonstration, acrobatics on their portable trapeze, hoola hoops, etc.

One of them came out inside a giant monster and danced around, which was unusual and very amusing. And then later she folded herself into a small box!

And then, the big surprise! – everyone, staff, chefs, and the family, from 80-year-old Martin to his young grandsons, all appeared at the front and danced and sang This is Me!

And they were all in tune!

Wonderful.

I actually feel tearful watching it again.

I met Lorraine and Martin the next afternoon for a drink on the balcony outside the bar.

When I asked Lorraine if an Agency had organised it, she gasped and said that she’d arranged it all herself!

I took my fan gift out of my bag and fanned myself, acting shocked. All of it? I asked.

Yes, the whole lot! she replied, laughing.

The circus acts came from an Agency in Palma and they were great, all working hard and adding to the atmosphere.

The BonSol puts on an event every year, but they haven’t decided what they’re doing in 2026.

But keep your eye on their website and get in there quick if you want to book your holiday!
