You won’t believe the Bon Sol until you see it yourself!
The 5-star hotel is 8 kms along the coast from the Capital, Palma and the airport.
Unlike most hotels in Majorca, it’s not a giant rectangle. Um, how can I describe it? It’s grown and spread out through the years, sort of like an enormous concrete octopus. And it’s still growing and changing.
There are apartments scattered around, not in rows. And the owners Martin and Lorraine Xamena had a tunnel professionally blown under the road, so there is an extension of seven floors lower down with each apartment looking out at the sea, one of the pools and the wonderful landscaped gardens. Steps lead down to the road below. And there’s further access across the road! Very confusing at first.

Every bedroom and apartment is different.
I’ve been to the Bon Sol three times now, but I’m sure that I still haven’t seen it all. I discovered even more on our latest visit.
Open a door and you find another sitting area or a children’s playroom that you haven’t seen before.

Walk around outside and you find more little gardens.
Look carefully around and up. Martin’s mother travelled the world and sent back suits of armour, Tibetan statues, porcelain, antique furniture and more.
There is so much to see. Check out the banister rails, held up by fish, or the lights. Or the gold taps in the loos. And every shelf holds bowls and ornaments.
All the paintings on the wall have a history. They’re not the usual mass-produced rubbish.
The Bon Sol has two restaurants. The upstairs one holds 202 people. But we prefer the downstairs restaurant, next to the bay in the sea. We like the views and the salad bar.
There is music in the main restaurant and bar most nights. It has a lovely peaceful outside area, where the fence is covered in bougainvillea and jasmine, and the wonderful view looks over the sea and across to Palma.
You can book the spa for your own private use, free for an hour. The four of us used it three times!
It has showers, steam room, sauna, hot tub and cold plunge pool.

The Bon Sol is closed to the public now, until the 15th March. But it isn’t shut. There is a lot going on, like maintenance, decorating and updating.
And the office is always open for booking. But hurry up as many regulars book every year!
Sorry but you can’t hold your wedding or your conference here. Lorraine and Martin care about their guests and they won’t put up a party for one night!
But…It’s a perfect place for a honeymoon!
