Mim’s Favourite Article of 2024. Lewes Lass in South Africa on The Kings Hotel, Brighton

By Miriam Erasmus

The Kings Hotel

In June I was travelling throughout Kent and Sussex with a friend, and on our journey we visited my 96 year old Uncle in Hove.

Rather than take a long drive home to The Midlands, we decide to look for a late booking in that area and found the most beautiful  boutique hotel right on Brighton beach front.

The Kings Hotel

What a team !

Led by Caesar and Alphonse there was nothing too small for them to accommodate.

Situated on the Brighton beach front just West of the Brighton i360, The Kings Hotel is a beautifully restored row of 3 Regency houses.

You immediately have the feeling that the hotel is well loved by the staff, as everything is welcoming and spotless as you walk in. The bar was buzzing gently, and we sensed that we would get a good night’s sleep !

We were accommodated in a 4th floor side room, and the lift brought us out onto a beautiful muted tartan carpeted hallway with a small wooden balustraded staircase up to our room.

Hallway

Looking up through the skylight, we felt transported to the original era of the houses.

We could still see a bit of the sea from the windows in the bedroom and bathroom, which had the original arched tops.

The room was well spaced, with just enough furniture.

Relaxing in the bedroom

The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom stylish and clean.

We were grateful for the small coffee and tea bar.

Restaurant

Breakfast in the spacious, comfortable dining room was a delight. The huge windows looked out onto a geranium decked wrought iron verandah overlooking the sea. The food was delicious.

The waiters were courteous, efficient and seemed to glide round the room unobtrusively.

I like fruit salad and yogurt and, for once, was treated to real chopped fruit and real cultured yogurt.

Nobody seemed to mind that I took photos with ‘bear’ !

Fruit and bear

My travel companion had a full English breakfast which was cooked to perfection.

Our waiter was John, a Scotsman, who lived but a few miles from her in Scotland, so they had a pleasant conversation.

We had parked immediately outside the hotel, but were kindly moved to the hotel car park at 9am. That was a blessing.

On leaving, the managers were charming, and only too happy to pose with bear and wish us well on our journey.

Management and Bear.

I recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to stay in Brighton.

Love, always,

Miriam.
