I recently entered a competition and I was delighted to be told that I’d been shortlisted.
Although I didn’t win, it made me sit down and think, and then write a poem that I wouldn’t have written otherwise.
So it’s always worth having a go – and the poem still belongs to me!
Dear Lyn,
Thank you for taking part in the Ashdown Forest’s inaugural poetry competition.
We had nearly 200 entries of an exceptionally high quality and it was fascinating to see the different ways that Ashdown Forest inspired the different poems.
Thank you for taking the time to write and to enter the competition. We are sorry that in this instance your poem didn’t win, but your poem was shortlisted during the decision process.
We would like to thank The Ashdown Forest Foundation for making the competition possible and if you would like to help support their work, please visit their website for more details on how.
Kind regards
The Ashdown Forest Team
Have you Ever Seen a Heffalump?
Have you ever seen a Heffalump?
They’re a bit of a mystery.
I think I nearly spotted one once,
It was hiding behind a tree.
You can always detect a Heffalump’s scent
Because they have never washed,
And if a huge Heffalump sat on your head
You would be badly squashed.
In the Ashdown Forest, it’s locally known,
The Heffalumps breed once a year.
So if you ever hear their loud bellowing cry
It really is wise to stay clear!
Christopher Robin, Piglet and Pooh
And their friends are all long gone.
But deep in the Hundred Acre Wood
Their tales will always live on!
