This coming weekend is the perfect time to visit the beautiful Hever Castle in Kent. Not only will the gardens be springing into bloom, with the rhododendron walk looking particularly impressive, but there are many traditional May Day customs planned that are ideal for the whole family to enjoy.
Included in your entry fee, you can watch demonstrations of Maypole dancing on the castle forecourt and even have a go yourselves. Both children and adults will have the best fun they’ve ever had getting tied up in ribbons.

The Green Man will be making an appearance during a play and he’ll want help to step into the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Or why not join in the tug of war – one for the stronger family members.
And you can do all this with a painted face – face painting is on offer at £6 a pop.
This, along with the usual offerings at Hever, which you can read about in the article I wrote following my previous visit means you can spend an entire day there taking in history, culture, wildlife and nature, activities and wind down with a relaxing float on a boat on the lake.
The May Day activities take place from 3 – 5 May and you can book your tickets here.
Thanks Maria for telling us about a delightful way to spend May Day.
