It’s always nice when talent one recognises and champions is also recognised by others, and even better when that recognition comes with a worthwhile award.
So I present to you, two of our Sussex musicians who have received such accolades over the last week:
Neil Grove, who fronts his three-piece blues band, Midnight Cannonball. We featured Neil in Unknown Kent and Sussex back when he was a young 21-year-old whippersnapper… well, he’s only 23 now, but he and his band are making serious waves in the South East. Toward the end of last year, they headlined the Friday night of Beer Blues Festival in Devon.
Neil has been nominated for Young Blues Artist of the Year by the UK Blues Federation. No great surprise there. The only surprise will be if he didn’t win. Catch the band where you can. You’ll find their full gig list on their website here.
Similarly, the incredible talent that is singer/songwriter, Benita Johnson who we featured in the magazine last March won the Best Solo Newcomer award from the Graham Steel Music Company. Benita is far from a newcomer, but she’s fairly recently relaunched her career. You know what they say, it takes at least ten years to become an overnight sensation:
I absolutely insist that you catch Benita live and am pleased to announce that Unknown Kent and Sussex Magazine is sponsoring a concert at the beautiful, historic venue that is Bridge Cottage, Uckfield, on Friday 28 March at 7pm. Not only do you get to see Benita in these wonderful, intimate surroundings, but it’s a dual gig with another brilliant artist we’ve previously featured in the magazine, Sam Brothers. Sam is a truly wonderful singer/songwriter based in Kent. If you’ve enjoyed the film A Complete Unknown in cinemas recently, you’ll absolutely love him. Visit his website to learn more about him.
As I say, this is a very intimate gig in a beautiful venue that only holds a maximum of 50 so it will sell out. If you want to attend, grab your tickets while you can:
