A 360-degree immersion with ColdPlay

Coldplay’s A Film For The Future is premiering for a limited run at the impressive Lightrooms in London, Seoul and Aviva Studios, home of Factory International in Manchester. Those lucky to go are immersed in a 360-degree screening of a visual accompaniment to the No 1 album Moon Music, A Film For The Future which was released globally on 22 January.

In each Lightroom venue, state-of-the-art audio technology and 11m high projection across 4 walls and the floor allow visitors to be fully immersed in the visual and audio experience.

The film was created by over 150 different visual artists from 45 countries. Each artist was given a handful of music snippets from Moon Music and asked to create corresponding visuals.  There were no rules or guidelines, and no knowledge of other artists’ creations.

A Film For The Future was first hinted to fans in 2019 in the album booklet of Everyday Life which featured a photo of a car with the license plate FFTF2024. Since then, Coldplay have released the lyric video for their single “feelslikeimfallinginlove” which became fans’ first preview of the long-awaited video release.

Executive producer Ben Mor, who also directed Coldplay and Beyoncé in 2016’s Hymn For The Weekend video, says the result is “a kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt – a 44-minute multimedia tapestry.”

Ben Mor continued: “It was a huge privilege to have the bird’s eye view of such an ambitious project, working with so many incredible animators and filmmakers all working independently of each other. The final film is simply jaw-dropping and I can’t wait for Coldplay’s fans to see it.”

Coldplay said: “We’re extremely grateful to all the amazing artists who lent their visual genius to this film. They’ve made something very beautiful and we’re extremely proud of it.”

As London’s renowned home for spectacular artist-led immersive shows, Lightroom has always celebrated the union of music and art. Lightroom’s latest show Vogue: Inventing the Runway explores the history of the runway shows, from the intimate couture salons of the early 20th century to the unforgettable pop-culture events of the present. Using original animation alongside a score fusing classical and pop music, the show transports the viewer directly into the front row of some of the most influential and iconic moments in fashion history.

“Combining amazing visuals with fantastic music is something we love doing at Lightroom, and working together with Coldplay and their wonderful community of visual artists has been a real privilege.  We’re thrilled to be premiering this immersive version of A Film For The Future at Lightrooms in London, Manchester and Seoul.” – Richard Slaney, CEO of Lightroom

The film is 44 minutes long and screenings run on Thursday and Friday evenings throughout February in London. Tickets are £25 per adult and £15 for students.
