Every year the Highway Hospice just West of Durban holds their Tree of Light ceremony.
A beautiful tree shaped frame is draped with hundreds of blue light bulbs, and those who would like to commemorate their deceased loved ones can buy a light and put a message in the Book of Remembrance.
I have been on the ‘music’ stage here for many years, and am delighted to have been invited back by Music co – ordinator and singing star Sandy Elle. This year will be Friday December 5th.

Just for UKAS followers, I will sing The Sussex Carol.
I used to be part of a trio called the Deez M Beez.
Dave Burch and Bernie Davenport were the Deez and Beez and I was the M !!

Please excuse the blur – we were rockin’ around the Christmas tree at the time !!
Sadly we have lost Dave and Bernie is too ill to take part, so it’s just M these days, but the love and joy of sharing music for loved ones is still there.
At some point, I sit on the front of the stage and sing for the little ones, songs like “Away in a Manger” and “Jingle Bells.”
Everyone brings a blanket, chairs and a picnic to enjoy the music and share stories. There are food stalls, and the Scouts always sell candles in paper plates for folks to hold whilst the tree is switched on. All proceeds to the Highway Hospice.
It brings me great joy that some traditions are still being honoured.
See you there ??
