TUFT launches bi-monthly experimental performance series

Bold new performance company TUFT, who brought you Concert At The Castle and Concert In The Caves, has announced the launch of a new ongoing series of multidisciplinary performance events, each one themed, exploratory, and rooted in TUFT’s core values of vitality, vulnerability, collaboration, and active audience engagement.

These events will take place every other month in reimagined and unconventional spaces across Hastings, and are set to become a regular platform for artists and audiences alike to play, create, connect, and collide.
The first in the series, “Belief Systems – Magic”, will take place on the 11th June at Hatton’s Yard (Joyful Roots) in St Leonards-On-Sea, inviting audiences to step into a realm of conjuring, illusion, and wonder. With a curated line-up of experimental performance, music, song, and conversation, this opening night will explore magic and magicians — real, deceptive, playful, and/or profound.
Featured artists:
Eleanor Westbrook – Artistic Director of TUFT and creator of beautiful weirdness
Tullis Rennie – Composer and musical improviser
Jess Mabel Jones – Joy-driven multidisciplinary art-maker
Spirit Doll – Gender expansive artist and performer
Audiences are encouraged to bring their own magical stories, tricks or talismans to contribute to the evening’s unfolding. Whether dressed as a wizard, a starry night, or a vague and ungraspable interpretation of enchantment — everyone is welcomed as both participant and spectator.
“We want to create a space of playful experimentation for artists and audiences alike,” says Eleanor Westbrook, TUFT’s Artistic Director.
Producer Charlotte Tingley adds: “Our goal is to support a community of curious makers and to offer space for the wonderful, the imperfect, and the experimental.”
Future themes in the Belief Systems series will explore a expanding range of ideas, from language to technology, risk to history, all offering ground for creative adventure and discussion.
