Keeping Ashdown Forest’s Animals Cool in the Heat

Ash Walmsley & Ponies
It’s hot everywhere – but it’s a real challenge for some of the animals in the Ashdown Forest.
As we hit record temperatures in the UK, the Ashdown Forest team is working hard to ensure that all its Exmoor ponies, Hebridean sheep, and Riggit Galloway cattle are fit and well.
With support from its fantastic volunteers, Ash Walmsley – Head of Countryside at Ashdown Forest, along with a small team plus volunteers, are making sure that the livestock have enough food, water, and shade.
The animals are checked daily to ensure they remain healthy and able to cope.
The ponies find their own shade and natural pools in which to bathe and regulate their temperature.
