One of football’s most extraordinary pieces of memorabilia is up for auction in Sussex on Friday (June 26).

This stunning 18ct white gold ring was commissioned by Lionel Messi following Argentina’s historic 2022 FIFA World Cup victory. It celebrates a huge moment for Messi and Argentina supporters.
Created by renowned jeweller M J Jones, this remarkable piece combines exceptional craftsmanship with immense sporting significance, making it a rare opportunity for collectors and football fans alike.
Now on Friday it is lot number 3001 at the Eastbourne Auctions live event.

Jeannette May from Eastbourne Auctions said: “We are so excited to have secured this ring for auction, especially with the World Cup on our television every night at the moment.
“This ring was commissioned by Messi at his favorite jewelers M J Jones, whose customers included elite footballers such as Luis Suárez, Raphinha , Belloli , Phil Foden, and Marcus Rashford.
“His customers also included world class teams such as Atletico Madrid and even the National Brazilian football team
“It is absolutely stunning – a clear sapphire head enclosing a World Cup trophy, alongside baguette and round-cut diamonds.
“The ring also bears the Argentine Football Association crest and the inscription Campeones 2022.
“We have already had a huge level of interest in this – and we are not surprised.”
Messi – captain of Argentina – led his side to a memorable World Cup win, beating France 4-2 on penalties.
Mathew J Jones is a talented jeweler working out of his studio in Nottingham
As a child he travelled around the country with his dad, Mick Jones, who worked as a football manager for many teams
Mathew became a jeweller because as a child he was obsessed with luxury brands such as Dior, Prada, Versace, and Bottega. When his opportunity came to work in jewellery, he wanted to create modern designs that are very masculine, something different to traditional fine jewellery, and went on to create standalone fine pieces.
Unfortunately, Mathew J Jones Jewelers took a downturn shortly after opening his flagship store in London in 2024 . BBK were appointed in June 2025 and all the remaining stock including this ring was sold off.
The current owner of the ring purchased it from the Liquidation Sale and has now put it up for auction
The estimate is £5-7,000 and to be sold at 9.30am on Friday 26th of June at Eastbourne Auctions
