This May Half Term, families are invited to step back in time and embark on a globe-trotting botanical adventure as Plant Hunters: Tales & Trails comes to Hever Castle from Saturday 23rd May to Sunday 31st May 2026.
Inspired by the daring explorers of the past who travelled the world in search of rare and wonderful plants, this immersive event brings history, nature and storytelling together across Hever Castle’s beautiful grounds.
At the heart of the experience is the Plant Hunters Trail, running daily throughout the gardens and included with standard admission. Visitors can follow in the footsteps of history’s boldest plant hunters, uncover hidden botanical treasures, learn fascinating plant facts and discover how these pioneering adventurers shaped the landscapes we enjoy today.

Younger explorers can also take part in Tales of the Plant Hunters, a series of lively and interactive daily storytelling sessions, lasting approximately 30 minutes. Each story invites children to join an intrepid mission to travel to the ends of the Earth in search of the rarest plants and find the cure to save the King. These sessions are included in the admission price. Adding an extra splash of colour to the festivities, face painting will be available on selected dates for a small additional charge.
With hands-on activities, captivating stories and plenty to discover outdoors, Plant Hunters: Tales & Trails offers a perfect May Half Term day out for curious minds and budding explorers alike.
Be inspired by the award-winning Hever Castle Gardens, bursting with the vibrant colours of late spring. Admire the cascading blooms of wisteria, the striking alliums and peonies bringing rich hues to the borders, and the first roses beginning to unfurl their petals.
Families can extend their day with a visit to Hever’s much-loved attractions, including two interactive playgrounds. Adventurous children aged 7-14 can climb and explore the Tudor Towers playground, while younger visitors will delight in the natural play spaces of Acorn Dell. Visitors of all ages can test their navigation skills in the historic Yew Maze or brave the ever-popular Water Maze, where staying dry is part of the challenge.
Before heading home, guests are encouraged to browse the Hever Shop, offering a wide selection of gifts, plants and homeware – perfect souvenirs to remember a springtime visit.
