AROUND 100 people came together to celebrate the stunning new mural at the home of two Eastbourne charities.

The beautiful mural – created by Hailsham artist Kerry Caffyn – now features proudly on the front of the SASBAH/JPK Hub building in Church Street, Old Town.

It has been made possible by Brewers Decorating Centres, who have supported SASBAH for more than 20 years and commissioned Kerry to carry out the work.

Melanie Adams from Brewers said: “When I first saw this building, I knew that we needed to do something magical to it.

“Kerry is such a talented mural artist and I knew that she would do a fantastic job. It looks wonderful and reflects the magic that goes on in the building each and every day.”

Kerry said: “I was privileged to be asked to create the mural. I used the Downs as the theme and I wanted the colour to match the SASBAH logo.

“It took me 130 hours from start to finish, and what an honour it has been. I have also been given the chance to see the wonderful work that SASBAH does, supporting so many people.”

The building has been home to The JPK Project for a number of years, and there are seven supported living flats at the rear.

SASBAH – The Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus – moved into the rest of the premises last Christmas.

CEO Rom Sanglaji said: “Myself and Jill Parker from The JPK Project want to publicly thank both Kerry and Brewers.

“This mural means such a lot to us all here  – it is very special and Mel knows how thankful we all are for her ongoing support. The support really does make a difference to the lives of our people.”

Guests at Friday’s celebration included Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Kathy Sambrook OBE DL and Eastbourne Deputy Mayor, Hugh Parker.

Rom said: “Thank you to everyone who came along. It was a fitting afternoon, full of uplift, positivity and celebration.”
