I don’t know about you, but I have always humanised our soft toys.
Then, the day comes when storing them after the children leave home becomes the thing to do and they are resigned to boxes at the back of the storage area.

In my recent rummages through the contents of our cabin to sort through what we need and what we will discard, I found the once beloved soft toys again, after 20 odd years, and my heart just melted.
All have been put into pillow cases and given a good wash in the machine, dried in the sun and, one by one are being lovingly rescued as much as possible.

Out with the needle and thread, button boxes, fabrics, glue, ribbons and ‘make do and mend’ skills.
The pretty dinosaur’s leg was sewn back on again.
Dolly’s old dress was replaced with a lovely new one, her legs stitched up and new elastic on her pantaloons. Her plaits were redone and tied with the same fabric as her dress.

Piggy was given blue eyes, a new nose, her ears pinned back and a new bow and leg bangle.
Teddy was given a new lovely red bow.
Pooh bear – I couldn’t find an eye, or a button that looked right, so we decided to call him Pirate Pooh !!!!

I still have to do the giant bear and the jointed bear – that will be fun !!
