Folk in the Lounge at Karin’s

Sitting Ready

8th June 2025

It was Karin’s 152nd Concert, and it was my 4th visit to her lounge, where she has hosted these gatherings since 2012.

Karin Pronk loves folk music so much that instead of travelling to see folk artists she opened up her lounge 13 years ago and invited us all to come and sing to her friends there. These people have now become dear friends, too, and we can be guaranteed a warm welcome from an audience that knows and loves you and the music you bring along.

The Lounge Set up

Karin and her friend Maarten Willems, put together a lovely gathering. The concert is in two halves with a coffee and soup break in between, then a sing around afterwards for those who want to sing a song or two.

It is always extra fun, because I can sing the Afrikaans folk songs I have learned, as they know them from their schooldays. I use these before the actual concert starts as ice breakers.

This time I had made out a song list, and for the first time in ages, I actually stuck to the list as I had already asked if anyone had a request for me to sing their favourite song.

In Full Swing

I know you all couldn’t get to the concert, so here is the facebook link to all the videos Karin took on that afternoon and she has given me permission to share them with you.

The songs

After the concert, we always have to have a photo with the Sheep.

Karin has a gallery in her hallway with all the artists holding the sheep.

It was a lovely afternoon – now we have booked the next one for my 80th Birthday year in 2028 !!
